Making indoor / outdoor furniture and other projects with PVC pipe is a very rewarding hobby. You'll be surprised how many useful and save money, can the items you craft. For example ... Furniture, toys, farm 'n garden things, shop equipment, games and so on.
But before you start are, here are some techniques that will make working with this low-cost, versatile material much faster and easier.
Measuring and Cutting
1. Always cut the longest piecefirst. In this way you will be able to use more of the line.
2. Select the track to be cut with a pencil.
3. Cut with a standard PVC pipe cutter. The easiest to use a simple ratchet-style cutter is available in most hardware stores.
4. Line up the pencil with a pipe cutter knife, then cut on the inside edge of your brand.
Option: You can not cut the pipe with a hacksaw. To make a straight cut, place the pipe in a miter box. Then wedge a piece of scrap wood betweenthe pipe and the side of the miter "in order to clamp it securely. Cut to the inside edge of your pencil to mark it.
Note: When cutting plastic pipe with power equipment, wear a proper dust masks to protect against particles or dust.
Then remove all burrs with a medium flat-file or coarse sandpaper. Use a rat tail file for the inside of the tube, if necessary.
Bonding
PVC in the construction projects, sometimes in a hurry that we glue and fittings at the end beforethe wrong direction. Naturally, this leads to destruction of furniture, delays, and in essence, that new start. It happens and it's frustrating. So here's how I solved the problem.
1. After cutting the length of the pipe, "dry-fit" parts of the project, as you progress. Make sure the lengths are correct and the furniture are facing the right way. Use a carpenter's square result for you if need be.
Tip: If you find a tube inserted to remove stubborn, add a vice-grip on the tube withPVC fitting clamped in a vise, then separated by spinning. Or use two vice grips.
2. If you are sure the section you are working is right then with a yellow marking pen, draw a line an inch or so, through the tube up and over each fitting. This serves as a simple result orientation. Now take apart the section and insert the pipes and fittings, ready for gluing.
3. Swab a light amount of glue to both the Assembly and pipe, the pipe into the fitting, rotate, addThey bring light and the yellow markings. PVC glue (also known as cement) dries quickly, so you have to be fast. Hold it for a few seconds. Then wipe away any excess glue immediately with an old rag, which includes the yellow line will be. By the way, since they do not have plumbing projects, you do not use on PVC primer to.
Tip: The bonding procedure I will only mention to fix the right way to pipe on the equipment. However saying that I need to apply adhesive to the inside of the installation only. UseMy own opinion, but in none of my 25 + years PVC projects come apart forever. Applying glue to both parts for me is overkill and waste of glue.
I mentioned that I did in the fitting just wipe. Why? For if one goes to insert the tube most of the adhesive to the inside. If the pipe instead of cotton swab, so the glue would seep to the outside world to your hands. My way is neater and cleaner.
4. Normally, the tube slides easily into the furniture. For the time if you are not sure whether thePipe has seated against the mounting wall, quickly and gently tap the opposite end of the pipe with a dead blow hammer or mallet.
5. Work in sections. For example, if I mounted a chair, building on the left side first, then right on this page. Finally, I secure the connection of pipes to both sides.
6. If you are in the production of a PVC chair, make sure the sling back and seat, careful not to stick to one side of the project only after you have the material, the attachedFrame.
But what if you do not want to use PVC glue? For some projects (eg, doll furniture) applying a small dot of super glue on the inside of the fitting is just right. I do not recommend it, but for projects that will receive the strong use.
I also have much luck with polyurethane adhesives, which have a lot of time (up to 4 hours) to customize your project before it was able to cure. So far, the two projects for gardening, I have tested have performed well. Again, you do not want to use,it for the tough projects like swing sets, chairs, and so on.
Mastering these simple techniques for working with PVC pipe will be able to ensure your PVC furniture and other projects outstanding.
