Propellers are one of the most important elements of a radio controlled speed boat, but few boaters can say a lot about how they work or how you the best selection and optimization of its power. If you have this knowledge, you can maximize your boat speed without damage to your engine.
Pitch vs. Slippage
A screw propellers are sometimes compared, but there is a considerable difference. The "pitch", which is a screw how many turns it takes to go in an inch measured. This is the same as the number of threads per inch. For example, a screw with a pitch of 12 threads per inch 12 full turns will need to go in an inch.
Propellers are not quite as efficient because they are "slipping" a bit of pressure through the water. A brace with a 2 inch pitch would theoretically the boat forward 2 inches for every revolution, but because of the slip moves a little less. The amount of deviation depends on the design of the proposal, the engine that drives them and the speed ofthe boat. Mild hydro boat is moving at top speed can be a difference of only 10% or so, but most boats will fall into the range of 20-30%.
Diameter and Pitch
The diameter of a proposal is measured from the tip of the knife. The larger the diameter, the more able to push more water. A larger proposal also needs a bigger engine even more power, or a gear drive that apply enough thrust without overheating the smaller engine.
The diameter and the slope of the proposal are the two numbersYou need to know to choose the best prop for your boat.
Select the best prop
If you buy a kit or ready-to-run boat, it is probably a low-cost, poorly performing motor and a prop, will be drawing a long period with low amp come. The reason for the manufacturers to do this is so even beginners have fun right now with a minimum amount of frustration. Advanced sailors can upgrade the same model with more powerful engines and propellers.
Once you readyTo update your fast electric boat, a first attempt with a slightly larger pitch prop, then a larger diameter. Run the boat at high speed for one minute and then the feeling of the engine. If it's too hot to touch, the propeller is too big, try a smaller diameter or pitch.
If you tried to update your boat speed with a hot new engine, you should also support, which was voted the survival of the motor. The new engine will draw more amps at lower RPMs than the share of the motor, so you probablymust do to keep on a smaller prop of the new engine from overheating. The smaller the proposal will allow the new engine revs higher, receive and thus higher speeds for your radio controlled boat.
Another factor, the design of your choice of prop are concerned, is their ability to repeal. Two columns with the same diameter and height can shape their blades differently. Repeal proposal might make sense on hydroelectric power, the beams get out of the water, and thereby attract more quickly.
PropMaterial
The three most common materials for electrical fast boat props are made of plastic, aluminum or copper-beryllium.
The best plastic props generally have embedded graphite fibers as reinforcement. These props are generally well balanced and are inexpensive.
Aluminum props are easy with a little flex, the rarely necessary balancing and are easy to polish. However, they can crack if bent too far and costs the same as props made of harder material. Aluminum is too soft to hold a sharpEdge, which is required for highest performance.
Props of copper-beryllium, and similar hard materials are the choice of the most serious boaters and most records are held by the boat with this material. You can sharpen a knife's edge and polished until they shine, but it requires balancing.
Propeller Balancing
Props from lightweight materials such as plastic and aluminum rarely vibrations at high speeds, so they are rarely off balance. However, heavy bladesberyllium or bronze rotating at 20,000 rpm or more may be enough to vibrations interfere with radio transmissions and can even produce you crack the hull. To avoid these problems, high performance props must be properly balanced.
You can make a balancer with scrap wood and razor blades, but if you do a lot, you are better off for my boat prop designed. Some balancers for aircraft props are not designed sufficiently sensitive for the smaller props used in radioBoats.
To close the balance, place the axle on the razor and see what propeller blade drops on the ground. This is the heavier end, and must remove some material to have to brighten it. With a metal file, starts at the top and material from the site of the proposal that the bow faces. Check the balance often and stop when the propeller spins only very little when they put on the balancer.
Be sure to use it, goggles and a good respirator when filing a beryllium-proposal to the keeptoxic metal particles from the eyes and lungs. Use 100-C wet or dry sandpaper to remove the file scratches. Then finish with a 400-grit.
If you have made so much effort into changing your props for maximum performance, you want to make good on them. A plastic box for storing fishing flies is well suited for it.
Please update your boat by the performance and compensation of the propeller in a matter of some trial and error, but it was definitely worth it. HaveFun!
