Carpenter ants are not true eaters might think of wood as you, but they hollow out wooden nest on Carpenter ants are social insects with complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adults). The wingless ants seenCrawling around the house are the workers (sterile females) and all the work of the colony. They range in size form of ¼ inch to 5 / 8 inches and is all black or black and red in color. The reproductive pair wear wings and swarm in spring and early summer. Workers dig tunnels called galleries along the grain of the wood. The coarse sawdust is leaving the nest galleries excreted clean and smooth.
The key to eliminating carpenter ants is to find the nest. This is not always easy, and it must never be visible to see. But do not despair, the problem can be corrected or controlled. Carpenter ants nest in almost any space or void, that a structure has, however, the most common areas are areas of moisture.
The first sign that you are carpenter ants usually the foraging workers, sawdust, or a grating in the wall or beam. The workers usually appear on the kitchen table, sink, dishwasher, bathroom or anywhereis moisture. It could be around the entrance areas of moisture, condensation from pipes, leaks, areas that do not get much sun and can be attracted by food spills.
Lets start in the basement. Keep children and pets from the room during the operation and until it is dry (3 to 4 hours). Get a 6-foot ladder, fill your duster 7 / 8 's full of dust and mix half a gallon of diluted spray concentrate. Take the respirator and protective clothing, all recommended on the label, yourPesticide. Start in a corner and pull the insulation (if applicable) in all four corners, 90-degree angle of extensions and entrance areas. Pull the insulation of pipes areas along the perimeter of the foundation and center of the basement and look for the ants themselves, or sawdust. Puff a little dust (2 or 3 trains) behind the insulation, if it does not supersede or ants, and the insulation. Sometimes there is a small gap between the bottom and the top of mudsill beams. IfThere is, puff a little dust in the gap or crack, where it is located, you can see whether or not ants. If you hold determine ants puff of dust on the ants and that pulls the insulation until you no longer see. A nest can be up to 3 to 5 wall cavities or as little as a few ants here and there. You can also use more than one nest, so thoroughly. Puff of dust in all the voids in bathtub, sink or shower bath from the basement. When the ants bore into the wood tunnels ¼ inch holes every 6 to 8Customs and puff of dust in the galleries (tunnels) from the nest.
If the basement does not have insulation and is wide open, look for sawdust and any obvious activity. Based on the exit holes in the saw and drill into the wood every 6 to 8 inches. If the wood is to stop a massive scale. If the sawdust is in the range of input, you can use any holes on the outside of the house to do. Carpenter ants love between the kick-plate from the entrance and the first 2 x 8 bars of the getHouse.
With the diluted pesticide that you previously prepared, spray mudsill slightly after the insulation back in its proper place. Be careful not to spray open flush or live electrical wires, neoprene wear gloves as a precautionary measure. If treatment is required for electrical boxes and cabinets is to use the dust formulation. Spray at the base boards throughout the basement and any stray ants. Keep children and pets from the area until it is dry. GraveTheir equipment and can go up the stairs.
If the kitchen sink and counter is against the outside wall, pull all the top drawer and out of their way. Put on neoprene gloves and drill ¼ inch holes every 13 cm into the wall. If the sheetrock walls go, it should by easily. Do not force the drill, you can on a pipe or electric wire. Move over 3 inches and try again. Stick the nipple of your duster into these holes so that you have a snug fit and puff of dust 4 to 5 times in eachHole. The comfortable fit does not secure the dust to come back. Let your breathing as a precautionary measure. Keep the holes in the air and out of sight. Get on your hands and knees and feel on top of the kick-plate for an opening of the cavities under the kitchen table. If there is access puff a little dust in these cavities (3 to 5 trains). If there is no access to drill the kick-plate, access under the false floor of the kitchen counter every 13 inches. Keep the holes in the air andSight.
Take your duster into the bathroom. Find the access under the double floor of the bathroom sink and puff of dust. Puff of dust in wall void if plumbing goes into the wall. Check where the toilet is sitting on the floor. If there is a gap or space, puff a little dust under the toilet. Ants love to live there. If you do not have access to under the tub from the basement here. You can find the access through the bathroom cabinet. If there is no access, drill a hole an inch or ¼ inchfrom the ground up and puff of dust under the sink. Remove the molding around the void shower head and puff of dust in the wall. The same is done to the bathroom upstairs.
Spray along the baseboards of all the rooms that you are in. This activity takes the strays and the rest will come from the other wall for several weeks to kill. Keep children and pets from the area until it is dry (3) to 4 hours depending on humidity.
Go into the attic with a flashlight and your duster.Look around for sawdust or a lot of dead ants. The corpses only tell you that they are under the insulation. No need to spray. Pull the insulation and puff of dust in all four corners and under the air holes, then replace the insulation. Grab your gear and can go outside.
Fill your duster and put your respirator. Puff of dust every nook and ninety-degree angle to the structure. Puff of dust into the cracks and crevices of the kick panels and door-posts of all An -Garage. While some are open around the house to keep his eyes on an ant trails or other obvious ant activity, which can give away the nest. Put on neoprene gloves and drill all over ninety-degree angle of the house. Drill holes around the waist high and 13 cm distance, access to 3 or 4 cavities to insure. If you hit a stud to move more than 3 cm and drill again. Puff of dust into the cavities (6 to 8 times). The holes 6 to 8 inches apart in the kick panel for all inputs. At first not to goto penetrate through, but the kick plate 1 inch and about half of the 2 x 8 behind. Puff of dust into the holes. When the dust comes back to you, stop. If you are not behind the entrance from the basement service, drill through to the inside and puff of dust into the holes. You may need a longer drill bit get to the other side. Cosmetically repair the holes with glazing compound or 1 inch by ¼ inch dowel parts, personal preferences.
Mix another half a gallonDiluted spray your foundation for treatment. Trim any tall grass against the Foundation. Dogs and cats eat grass. Keep children and pets from the room during the operation and until dry. The nozzle of your sprayer should be based on fan-or cone. Start at one corner and direct the spray onto the mudsill area (the area where the foundation meets the first wooden members of the House). Also, the 90-degree spray angle, where the land meets the ground. Spray it at low pressure to wet, should not drip or run off, is sufficient in general 3 Passover. Spray around windows and doors, an apparent stray ants and ant trails. Carpenter ant treatment is not limited to these areas, but these are the most common areas, and this treatment is about 98 percent of the carpenter ant problem solvers.
Carpenter ant treatment is not limited to this treatment. Other areas to check if the problem persists.
Hollow Doors - Pull the pin and set the door on it's edge. Youmay hear a rustling as you move the door. Pay attention to the breathing holes on the top and bottom of the door. If the breathing holes where ants are usually rounded and not square. If you think they are there, take out the door and puff of dust into the holes. Replace the door when ceases to operate.
Take hollow curtain rods - you outside the bar and spray ants with fast aerosol and reflected Replace rod.
Retaining Walls - When is the retaining wall of trees fromDrill into the galleries (tunnels hollowed out) and puff of dust into it.
Drill stumps and trees - use existing holes or in the galleries and are dust. Spray the outside of the bolus with residual spray water-based. If the tree lives and your income is not planning further down. Apply dust into any existing holes at the base of the tree. Spray the trunk of the tree as high as possible from the ground. Spraying the trunk of the tree may need to be done several times during the seasonif the ants in a limb that is high off the ground and you can not find the nest is located.
Fireplaces - Apply dust to cracks and crevices, where the chimney is adjacent to the house. Humidity controls between the house and chimney by faulty seals and is a common nesting site for carpenter ants.
Use common sense in the use of pesticides. Read the entire label on the pesticide container. Keep children and pets from the room during the operation and until dry.
